Say I wanted to shadow a neonatologist. Do I just follow him around? Do I just stand there when he talks to patients? Isn't that a little akward to have a random kid standing with you? How does it work exactly?.... Thanks

You follow, you are introduced to the family as a student who is interested and they decide if they are comfortable with your presence, you listen/observe, (when you aren't in front of patients) you ask (intelligent) questions about what you heard/saw, if impressive enough you get a LOR.
