how far can you live from the school?

so my interview went well at a school i really really like. there's only one problem. due to reasons i cant entirely explain(religious and/or significant other), I'd need to live far off campus(mapquest clocks it as a 25min drive and there is parking on campus). Obviously it isn't ideal, but this should be doable, right? I'm more of a study-at-home than at the library type of guy at nights.. and i dont see myself coming in at 2am too often anyways.

i didnt get in yet, but i wanted to hear everyone's opinions on the 30min commute to school. i fear that i might get tired of the commute pretty early..thanks

25 min. with or without morning and afternoon traffic? A commute that actually takes about 30 minutes is no big deal, in my opinion. It's not ideal, of course, but many people do it.

haha 25 min is suchhh a short commute... then again i feel that in NYC anything under an hour is a terrific commute lol. if i get/go to mount sinai i would probably not move and would have to give myself at least an hour to commute, even though i may soetimes get there earlier

I would say 30 min is ok for a commute.

I would never advise somebody to have one that's an hour or greater, though. Then it just adds entirely too much stress. But 30 min is ok, it gives you a bit of time to just think and decompress some.

traffic shouldnt be too bad so i figure it would take me no more than about 40 min each way.. i also dont want to be sort of an outcast from the rest of the class since i know that most live on campus but i dont think that would happen just because i live further off campus

It's hard to say. Obviously you won't be an outcast, but not living around the rest of the class you may miss out on some of the first year bonding, since people being in all the same classes/living together/hanging out tends to do that. It seems like you would share all the stressful and formal parts of med school, but not some of the more informal, relaxed aspects. But if that's what you need to do, I definitely wouldn't make a big deal out of it. It's all about how you interact with classmates while you're around them. I just personally hate commuting by car. Makes me feel like some guy from office space.

jajajaj, thats nothing, i know ppl that commutes 1hr in my undergrad. I meet a guy that commutes 2 hrs to the school and 2 hrs back, everyday. His med school is not in such a great area so he cant really stay until late in the school.
