More of a curiosity post as interview season is really gearing up. For those who matched previous years, what position on your rank list did you eventually land?

I guess this may be a sensitive thing for people to post, so I have a follow up question. With all the "it's important to tell someone they are your number 1 talk" it creates a fear that you match at your number 1 or number 10.

In your experience, did the programs you ranked 2 and 3 care that you didn't tell them they were your number one?

Looking at early results of the poll... it is a little scary.... people either matched at their number 1 or fell pretty far on their match list.

Dont get nervous. That is a reflection of who posts on this site. The average board score for accepted people was not a 253 but I bet if you polled the people that regularly respond you would think it were. There are lots of people that match somewhere in the middle.

Thanks! This field can make you feel like everyone else applying is Step I >260, AOA, and >5 Nature papers.

Tell you what, kiddo...the field looks amazing from the outside as a med student, and residency itself is a wonderful experience in training.

Just remember that once you're out there looking for jobs at the end of your residency, you'll be competing for jobs with the same hypercompetitive cohort... people who likely will have overachieved even more during their residencies.

At the end of your residency, you may be faced with an unfavorable job market with limited geographic selection/availability. You'll have be open to moving to places you would never have thought you'd move to otherwise.

Radonc is an awesome specialty for sure, but there are downsides that are specific to the field being so small. So, for all those med students who don't match despite being perfectly well-qualified to enter radonc, you can at least breathe a sigh of relief that you'll probably have much more freedom of choice regarding where you want to practice medicine.

Do the results of this poll seem accurate to those who are experienced with the match?

It is weighted WAY to heavy to people matching at their first choice. Certainly a lot of people do but I will confidently say 40% of people don't match at their top choice.
