How far does down does the lung distend in respiration?

Does the posterior side to the lung go all the way to t12? Thanks.

According to my syllabus, the lower border for the pleural reflection is the 12th rib at the vertebral border The lung crosses the 10th rib.

Netter shows the lung going down to the 10th rib posteriorly (according to our professor, this occurs during quiet respiration). I would imagine the lung would go on to fill the remaining portion of the costodiaphragmatic recess during forced inspiration. So yes.

As I understand it, the recesses are only filled during forced inspiration. Normally the lung is found 2 costal spaces above the lower parietal pleura border(reflection) (not sure if this is true throughout the lung in the transverse axis or this only occurs at a certain axis (mid-clavicular/mid-axillary)) etc.

Can anyone confirm?

Yea the costodiaphragmatic recess gets filled on forced inspiration.

Yeah, can go down to the umbilicus--that's why when people get shot in the chest, they can end up having diaphragm/abdominal injuries because it can rise and fall to a great extent.
