Hey everybody,

What do people seem to think about U of Chicago. I go there and all the residents I met really seem to like it. I talk to other applicants and they all seem to dislike it. Does anyone know hwo good of training you will get there compared to a top program like BWH. (I'm trying to choose between the two). I know Brigham is likely better, but Chicago might be more fun to live in.
Anybody got any insight?

thanks

I intereviewd there and I liked it. I haven't heard any negative things from fellow applicants aside from an intern on my medicine team who interviewed there last year who said that he didnt like the PD. Otherwise, its been pretty positive

I did a month at the University of Chicago and I thought it was a solid program. The didactics are excellent with morning report 6:30 to 7 am each morning except for Wednesdays, when they have a M&M that goes from 7-8 am. Some of the cases they do are amazing - I saw an endovascular repair of a AAA that was 12 cm dilated! I also saw a resection of a renal tumor that had ascended to the right atrium - there was both a nephro surgeon and a CT surgeon doing the case. The department is very academic - they have some of the leading names in anesthesia. During the past ASA convention, 9 out of the 99 main presentations were done by U of C faculty.

The only observed drawback from my perspective was that the residents didn't seem like they were doing enough cases. Perhaps this problem is only temporary because I was talking to a CA-2 who said that last year was a lot busier.

Anyone would be lucky to do a residency at the U of C.
