I'm mostly interested in the US allo programs (and US osteo programs) for feedback.

I'm a M1, and I have noticed that some of our blocks have better instruction than others. The block I'm currently in will likely include a lot of supplemental self-directed learning, which is not a death sentence or anything. I'm just curious what your experiences are.

Most professors have been pretty good so far. The only class that sucked was genetics. I went to a tutor who pretty much taught me everything. The profs for anatomy are great, but I feel like a lot of is self-directed learning anyway.

We joke that our pre-clinical years are like an online degree at my school...you basically teach yourself everything. Sometimes it actually feels like the professors and administration get in the way of learning material.....Still no complaints, most of us like studying our own way and I feel I've learned a lot, so they're doing something right. I assume most med schools are like this too in pre-clinical years, it's a lot more self-directed learning.

Occasionally we get a very good teachers or course director and the block is well taught, but it's definitely in the minority.

The thing that makes medical school hard are the expectations. Anyone can film lectures and write multiple choice tests. But giving you a framework and telling you how much you need to know is what you're paying for. You teach yourself a lot but you definitely wouldn't set that brutal of a pace if you were doing it yourself

I think pretty much every school has a mixed bag. IMO I find the younger instructors (in the 35-50 year old range) are generally better than older instructors who are <10 years from retirement and no longer give a ****.

Oh, and screw anybody who still teaches with chalk. It's 2015, get with the times.

It's a total mixed bag at my school. Some lectures are so amazing they inspire you to dig and work to really understand. Others make you question why the **** you just dropped 30k+ a year to have your time wasted.

Oh do you only go to school for half the year?

Please kill me.

I know, compared to what some of you guys are paying we've got it pretty good. But it's relative, 5 years ago that figure was closer to 16k, I **** you not. The slope of the increase has gone exponential.
