I went to Tufts for undergrad, and was recently accepted to the med school. I am trying to gauge the atmosphere/experience. Are most students happy? Is the environment supportive or just super competitive. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I work at the hospital where they train and do there clinicals, and the students seem nice and friendly.

And more in debt than just about any others in the country...

Thanks for the responses. The money is a big deal, but all private med schools are expensive. I'm just trying to decide where to spend tons of money I don't have, haha.

Interesting. The author was critiquing the culture that permeates medicine not his medical school (Tufts). He grew disillusioned to the romanticized ideals he had of the institution(medicine). I think a lot has changed since 1999 when he graduated (Eg. 80hr-work rule for residents, more emphasis on early patient contact etc.) The old guards are retiring and are hopefully being replaced with better, compassionate doctors.

The author actually had very serious problems with the tufts administration too. Read the epilogue section. But yea who knows if a decade has changed everything.
