is it about the same ratio as UCSF 1500/6000 or easier? What about the other UCs? thanks

ucla: i believe slightly less than 1/2 (maybe ~40%) of all applicants receive secondaries.

according to their website, they send out secondaries to 3,000 out of 5500 applicants...that is over 50%...

I just got mine today through e-mail, but I can't access to it yet...

yeah, same. But does UCLA have one of the longest secondaries or what? there are like 10 questions on it (based on last year's).

Anyone else know how hard the other UCs screen?

anyone not get a secondary from UCLA?

Do you mean out of the people who were verified a while ago? I'm not sure how informative this question is because it is not as if UCLA sends out all secondaries at one time, as I understand. Just because someone has not received a secondary yet does not mean they never will... Or are you just looking to see who else is in your boat right now?

Regardless, good luck with your apps. 👍

Yup, I just received an email for UCLA's secondary. So excited!

I was just verified yesterday (woohoo!). Can anyone give me an idea of how long it might take for me to receive a secondary, provided I am granted one?

Does CA give students full scholarships if they go to UC for medical school and thier GPA is high?

Full scholarships are for MD/PhD programs. It will NEVER happen for regular MD. You may get scholarships and it is dependent on your activities. This isn't UG anymore.

To other Posts, UCLA doesn't screen hard. I've been looking at it and they basically gave it out to 3.5+/30+/qualified URM. Interviews may be another story. Congrats, though! 😛 I've just never heard of them NOT giving out the secondary (they do them in batches).

Yeah, all the UCs more or less do it in batches, so don't worry if you don't get it right away. Some people get secondaries next year heh. I suppose if you don't get it within a month or so, especially if you are instate, you can write them if you want. Some people have had success in getting it that way. I wouldn't bother for awhile tho.

what is URM, and are you saying out of the 2500 people that didn't get secondaries, they did not even meet those qualifications? i mean why would you even apply to a school like UCLA with less than 3.5 / 30

Oh, URMs are under-represented minorities (Latinos, Blacks, and Native Americans). They are usually given GPA breaks that all 3.5>GPA>3.0 applicants desire.

Though in CA with the high latino population there, I think there are more than enough qualified applicants that being Latino isn't a URM in CA.

I beg to differ. URMs are under-represented minorities IN MEDICINE, not in the state. "Qualified" is qualitative, their experiences can get them quite far. Just because there are high numbers in Cali doesn't mean there are high numbers at UCLA. I know this to be true.

I highly doubt it..
Im at School of Public Health now at ucla (im also applying for med) and some classes I take included many med students.

trust me, I'm like one of 2 Latinos in the class of like 45 people. Tho many Latino are qualified, many dont have the high gpa, etc.. when you compare them to whiteys or azn's. 😎
