I'm currently wait-listed @ Cornell & NYU and those are my only two options...in case I have to re-apply does anyone know how long I would have to live/work in Cali before est. eligibility to apply to state schools? I know UCSF & UCLA are a little more amenable to out-o-staters but I was thinking about moving in w/ some friends in SF, doing some research/teaching, and then re-applying maybe 2 yrs from now...any info?

12 months, must show intentions to establish residency.

Is there a reason for the residency switch? If it is to get into a Cali med school, it is still one of the toughest place to get in from in state.

I thought it was more complicated. Doesn't seem so bad.

its complicated in the sense that you need to show an 'intent' to establish residency. So living in Cali for 12 months won't do it, but working there, paying taxes, etc. will show intent.

It's a horrible idea. Only 19% of medical students from California end up matriculating at a school within the state; CA is by far the largest exporter of medical students in the nation. Texas and New York don't come close - they take care of their own. Great job, California 👎
