I really don't know anything about DAT/dentistry so please don't get annoyed with my questions: how difficult is DAT and how hard is it to get into dental school? Is DAT much harder/easier than MCAT?

Thank you!

why, are you considering dentistry as your "backup"? 😡

No I am trying to make a career choice and am doing a bit of research on a few health-related occupations that interest me.

Its easier then the mcat, because you don't have to analyze as much.

it's easier also because there are designated sections for subjects without passages, except for the reading comprehension of course. and there is no writing involved.. pure multiple choice.

you shouldn't be making a career choice based on the ease of getting accepted into the respective type of school.. go out shadow a doctor/dentist and do some volunteer work and see which fits you best.

sorry if this is not the case, but that's how it comes off in your initial post.

This is not the case. I was merely trying to learn how competitive dental schools are to get into.

it seems nobody was trying to answer this simple question, so let me be the first person who answers your question.
Very Very competitive, and it's not easy to be a doctor(dentist).
Health related jobs got something to do with other people's body which can be directly related to their life. Doctors can save people but one mistake can kill them too, so it's not just an easy going job that people can just have for fun. They have to understand how serious this subject is and they also need serious attitude about it. That also include serious attitude towards studying and people around you. I think that's what seperates medical, dentistry fields from other kinds of jobs.

thanks for being the first one to finally answering my question. another quick one for you though: is dental harder/more competitive to get into than medical school?

I think there were actually two earlier posts than answered your question. To confirm those two, I would agree that dental school is less competitive than medical school.

By the way, this question might be better suited for the Pre-Dental forum than the DAT discussions forum. This question has been asked quite a few times, and you could probably find a great deal of information there. 👍

well...I am not quite sure, but most people say Mcat is harder than DAT.
Another fact is...i have friends who wanna be sergion, another friend want to be pharmacist, and both of them study MCAT. So...I think all kinds of medical fields except dentistry study MCAT. So...What i am trying to say is...there are more people taking MCAT compared to DAT. More people = more competitive. I don't know if what i am saying is true or not, but that's what I think is true.

Maybe he's only 13 or something (I hope)...just because they're studying MCAT books doesn't mean they're taking the test. I've studied MCAT books for the DAT, because they're good study guides. Pharmacy schools have the PMAT and Optometry has the OAT, none of them use the MCAT. I bet they won't accept MCAT scores either.
