When I interviewed there, I sensed a kind of ambivalent attitude toward the Touro system owning NYMC. The cafeteria food is kosher now, and the university gets the Jewish holidays off. They also got a brand new simulation center and are getting more stuff on campus, so apparently Touro has enough money to bankroll some good things at the school. So it seemed mostly positive, I guess, but the people didn't have really strong opinions about it as far as I could tell.

Hi DocLacrosse! I will most likely matriculate here next year as well, just sitting on one more wl.

Anyway, when I did my nymc interview research I scanned through 50+ sdn pages, so I've already curated the highlights on this issue. Here's my notes:

-Tons of Jewish Holidays off, useful to catch up on studying.
-Kosher cafeteria, but from what I remember it just means the cream for coffee is an alcove 20 feet away.
-Someone posted about reduced library hours/equipment usage during Sabbath, but I was told those have been relaxed.
-In the big picture of hospital/med school administration, some people seem to have negative opinions of the Touro system, but we won't really be affected at the medical student level.
-At the end of the day, having a backer with $$ is a net positive.

I would also love some input/clarification from students with insight into this!

Sure, they have money from 4 other medical school's worth of tuition to throw at their new child.

a co-resident of mine was there when the purchase went down. Basically said it became harder to order a cheeseburger, and you suddenly couldn't print in the library on Saturdays.

Sim center isn't a positive. You'll probably use it rarely to never and if you do it won't be in a way that furthers your education
