say you have a pub or two in outcomes research

will this be helpful even if all you did was data extrapolation .. as opposed to experience in more direct clinical research or basic science?

just trying to learn more dont flame me

If you used the scientific method, had a significant role in the production of the manuscript and got published in a half decent journal it will look good.

What do you mean by more direct clinical research? Double blind trials?
The vast majority of clinical research published by med students are chart reviews or junk case reports. Depending on the project, "outcomes" research can many times look better than either of those.
