Meathead that I am, I attend med school overseas in pakistan.

In these five years, how helpful will it be when it comes time for residencies if I've done some research or some clinical rotations/electives + LORS with docs at big hospitals in the US?

Also, is research still beneficial even if you didn't get a publication out of it?

Are you asking, with all else being equal, if the applicant with research, USCE, LORs and publications will be viewed more favorably than the applicant without?

Of course.

well I mean specifically in the IMG sense. Is it just a small advantage that you'll have over other IMG's if you've done these things, or can an IMG eventually become as competitive of a candidate, if not even moreso, than a US grad?

I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you asking if two applicants, one IMG and one US senior, with equal applications (research, USMLE scores, LORs, etc.), will be viewed equally?

Yeah, more or less.

Also, how much do these things help to separate an IMG from another IMG, or even a US senior who doesn't have anything other than a high usmle score?
