I wanted to quickly write my story in hopes it can help others. I found out in August that I had failed step II. I got a 348. I was shocked and devastated. I used Falcon review books with online videos, and combank for study. I went through combank almost two times and all the books twice. I did 600 review questions two days before the test. I felt prepared, felt good coming out, and failed by a lot.
After talking to an adviser at my school, he thought that my problem wasn't studying enough but studying correctly. Based on my Myers-Briggs personality test, it said I was an intuitive thinker. It was better for me to understand the overall big picture rather than get bogged down with memorizing all the details. I think my mistake the first round was I focused heavily on questions (details) rather than overall concepts (reading).
For study, I did an easy two week rotation and then two weeks vacation (neither I did the first time). I used only Crush as my book for study and comquest. I tired to do four hours of crush a day and two hours of questions using my Crush book. I went through crush four times really well and 400 comquest questions. I took all comsae tests at week 2, 3, and two days before the test. I got 433, 419, 449. My actual step II was 461. Its not high, but after getting a 348 and having as much confidence as a 13 yr old prepubis boy in junior high, I am happy. For me this worked. I took a simple book and focused on that rather than questions. Crush is simplified and is missing a lot but I think it gave me the big picture and helped me think on my feet better through the weird comlex questions. Good luck to any other re-takers. 😀
