I know with pharmcas there is no grade forgiveness so i am sitting at a 2.2 mgpa. I failed a pre-calc course my freshman year. My cGPA is ~ 3.2 and sGPA ~ 2.9. I just started my junior year so i have plenty of time to raise my cum and science gpa but i finished all my courses for math. How bad will my 2.2 look on my application? Also, does pre-calc even factor into my mGPA?

thankyou

I think math and science are calculated together. Your m/s GPA would be somewhere between 2.2 and 2.9.

i think i read somewhere that they are calculated separately.

can anyone help me???

Every school evaluates GPA differently so no one answer can help you. I know of no school that looks at math GPA by itself - science/math all the way.

It looks bad. Do you really need anyone to tell you that?

i thought pharmcas evaluates gpa separately? i guess i am wrong.
I started off with an F in precal and worked up to a B- in CalcII. My sgpa/mgpa is a 3.0 but without grade forgiveness is ~2.5. Will adcom see this as good enough or should i retake a math class somewhere?

PharmCAS does evaluate GPA. So do the schools.

I wouldn't retake any courses. Focus on other areas.

retake the pre-reqs if they are a C or lower for pharm schools. Math is a little tricky since most people only have 9 or so hours of it in college. Make sure you do well on the ones for pre-reqs and/or on the PCAT.

Most schools calculate Science and math together. Schools that don't appear to be the exception rather than the rule. Do well on the sciences and then try to take upper level math if it worries you but ONLY do it if you feel you can get a B or higher, A being most preferable of course.

Schools have a minimum GPA cut off. If you have that then there is nothing to stop you from applying. However, recent trends are useful for people who have lower grades to being with.

I had a year where I tried to withdraw due to family issues and have an F on Stats, precalc, and organic + lab. I can never get rid of that and many pharm schools don't do grade foregiveness.

However, I retook those classes and got an A in all of them except organic, which i got a B. I will then talk about it in personal statements later on to discuss what happened. Do the same and show a higher trend and this will barely be a blip on your radar.

now when schools have a cutoff point for GPA do they use pharmcas gpa or do they calculate it on their own??

This is what I am worried about. I currently have a 3.6 Sci GPA but my Math GPA is around a 2.7, but I've only taken College Algebra and Intermediate. I dropped my Trig class earlier in the Spring Session. 🙁(

I think schools focus more on other science courses and your cGPA than on your math GPA independently. I really never liked math so my math GPA was low too, but that didn't hurt my chances much and was still able to get into a program. Also, you still need to take a couple more math courses so there is still plenty of room for improvement. Goodluck 👍

Every time I see one of these "How important/bad/whatever is this random thing?" questions I always want to say approximately this [<---------------------->] big/important/bad/good/...

Or maybe something like 7 school buses worth. Kinda like those random figures you always hear on the Discovery channel. I think I'll go with that answer; your math GPA is 7 school buses important.
