Can a mediocre secondary be the difference between interview and rejection/silent rejection, or is it lower on the totem pole in terms of criteria used to select candidates to interview.

Very likely be a hindrance to your entry to the medical schools of your top choice. But, why risk yourself doing that?

It's just as important as your PS. Esp for schools that stress "fit" where they will essentially ask you why they should accept you.

Most of them have a LOT of essays. Each of these essays is a chance for you to connect with the school. A good secondary isn't going to improve your gpa or mcat, but it can demonstrate that "fit" you hear talked about on here. It can also provide some topics to discuss during an interview.

It can absolutely make the difference between rejection and an interview.
