how important is the name of a college if you're going for an mph? how heavily is it weighted in the med community? thinking of going to a community college..? or maybe trying for a better one.. and going into non-profit or gov't or maybe hospital administration afterwards.. thanks

The most important thing is the accreditation process. If the program is accredited, it is an absolute imperative for some jobs (eg. federal government).

As for the name of the school, the bigger/older the school is, the more recognition you'll get when your resume is reviewed. It might get you a second look during the review process, but it's not the most important factor.

ok some more random questions:

1) what core skills does one learn in an mPH?
2) do you think this is a good segway for learning if you're interested in pursuing further clinical jobs (i e nursing)?

1.) You learn the 5 core areas of public health and then you learn your specialty area (or two if you're ambitious).

2.) Public health and clinical medicine are interdependent upon each other, but that being said, you don't get a huge leg up transitioning from one career to another because they are very different.
