I don't particularly enjoy research, although I am currently affiliated with a research lab. I'm wondering if this is as big a factor on the application as it would be in other medical careers.

I haven't done any research, and I have already been interviewed and accepted by every school that I applied to. I think it really depends on if you do anything else (philanthropic extracurriculars, etc) and what the rest of your application looks like. There are a lot of things that are a lot more important to Optometry schools. Not once did it come up in any of my interviews.
