I am currently looking into doing some research in the dental field at my university and I was wondering if research looks good on applications, or if schools would rather have volunteer hours in a clinic?

Thank you.

If you have to choose b/t the two I would say shadowing/clinic work would be more valuable, but that probably also depends on the school.

Edit: MacGyver is the greatest show, ever.

Clinic if your stats are decent, but research is important if you can squeeze it in and do something worthwhile.

Hah yeah, I love MacGyver. 😉 From what I've heard, alot of the research is pretty laid back so I think I can hopefully do a little of both. Also, the research I was looking into was about Oral Biology and another was in Restorative Dentistry.
