How important is the essay to your application? I am though with the DAT and now giving myself an ulcer about this. 😕

Is as important as a great kitchen when trying to sell a house for top $$$

My SIL had a 4.0, all the research in the world, and all a pre-med could do...BUT she had the most horrible essay 😱 and didn't get not even 1 interview! 👎 sat at home for 1 yr to apply again 😱

So, the essay will make or brake the deal. Be as honest and as creative as possible and state very well why you want to be a destist, and how much passion you have for the profession & helping others. It has to come from your heart. Never send an essay without other people (that know about essays, dental school) seeing what you wrote.

Good luck :luck: :luck:

It's very important and should not be taken lightly. It's the one place in the application in which you, the person, has a chance to make an impression through all of those numbers and it is the personal statement many adcoms turn to help aid decisions about interviews and acceptances.

It might vary a little from school to school obviously. Some schools use a point system for admissions, others are more subjective. From what I have heard about my school from faculty and the admissions committee, the essay is very important--people here have had very creative essays and I have heard the Adcoms mention that so-and-so impressed us by saying ______ in their essay.

There are several essay writing resources available, so if that is a weak point make sure you take advantage of them (even if it is a free service offered by a writing lab at your school). But also remember that a few school will ask you to write an essay when you are being interviewed as well.

Good luck!
