Having a poor GPA right now, I highly doubt I would be accepted anywhere of status.
I see everyone here talking about all these great schools theyre getting their secondaries from and I know I would have no chance of getting accepted to one of them.
At least at this point...

So my question is, how important is the school you undergrad at to your acceptance into med school and your future in the profession?

And on a side note, I see so many schools being mentioned by so many people... Are you guys sending in like dozens of apps?

As long as you get past the screeners, it could help from what school you graduated from. For instance, at least on this coast of the US a lot of adcomms know about my school and its premed program where it is ENCOURAGED for about 200 students to start ripping each others throats out and the teachers grade on a very strict bell curve. And when people are weeded out, competition just gets fiercer.

So if you come from a particularly fierce environment, I'm sure it could earn some sympathy later on in the admissions stages.

But as in your career as a doctor? Doctors usually introduce themselves by a) Where they did their residency first b) Their medical school.

It seems though where you did your residency seems to be the one that raises the most eyebrows.

The higher the MCAT, the less important your undergraduate institution becomes to adcoms I think. Just my .02 though.
