how important is the writing sample????

can someone please tell me how significant the writing score is???

and what are good topics to write about????
I hear people have these "databases" - pre-thought-out ideas that they come into the test with...
 
well it won't make or break your application, but being able to follow directions in a coherent manner is pretty indicative of being able to succeed in medical school. I wouldn't spend too much time fretting about it, but make sure you know what they're looking for so you don't screw it up. It's the easiest section to do well on-no studying required, really, just a few practice sessions.
 
Depends where you are applying. In US...generally not as important. In Canada..important in some places. Western requires a minimum of Q, Queen's requires a minimum of P. Most other schools require a minimum of N.
