Just wondering... I just finished updating my CV (sending out apps for several popular 4th rotation sites soon, some of them are scary popular apparently) and realized that half my stuff I've done during med school are involved in shaping incoming classes' stuff (like restructuring some programs, adding activities to current electives, etc).

I don't know. I just feel like I haven't done enough "research" research.

How about you guys?

I didn't do much research - the majority of my activities revolved around community health.

Everyone has their passion. Make it your niche and run with it.

Those are legit activities, especially if you were very involved. What are you trying to get into? It's not to late to do some research research.

Academic Peds or EM (preferably Peds EM)

I don't know, theres that one thread talking about publication. That's why I got concerned because the educational stuff I do won't give me any publications..........

You'll probably be fine. Publications aren't that necessary for peds or em.

cool,

ya, my roommate got me paranoid. I printed out a couple copies of my CV when I finished and my roommate read it (we share a printer). She commented that I shouldn't put "garbage" activities on my CV, which I think is not true at all (and it was kinda mean for her to say that)....... She said it's either publishable research or nothing else....

She's a *****. Her CV will be pretty skimpy compared to everyone else...

Uh, academic committees/leadership positions are absolutely NOT garbage. I'm on some fairly big academic committees at my school and I've been told by my advisor numerous times that it looks good - both for your Dean's letter (when the person is gonna write about you and knows who you are) and overall for residencies.

If everybody needed to do research to grab a residency your school would make you do research. Sure, there are some fields that you'd get dinged for not performing research...but you're not interested in derm. Compared to an obscure research topic you're not really digging, your involvement on school committees represents a readily accessible topic that can easily propagate discussion in an interview setting. I think you'll be a-ok.

And it must suck to live with Sally Sourpants.
