So I am a Junior in college nearing the application process of physical therapy school and things are looking just ok for me. Basically my question is, how are each factor of the application weighted? If I apply with only a 3.4-3.5 GPA but I am a college athlete, a national honor society student, an athletic council member for my conference, I have over 130 observation hours, have outstanding letters of recommendation, and scored above average on my GRE, how do I stand compared to others?

Will I be looked over just because of my GPA? ( a little bit of background.... last spring I had rough semester during my athletic season and missed a lot of class ad affected my GPA a lot. I am generally an A/ sometime B student.

Every PT school is different so you really have to know your schools. But to answer this question generally, I would say GPA and GRE are usually rated heaviest which a specific emphasis placed on your pre-req GPA calculation. A variety of hours and/or commitment to the physical therapy field specifically is another important factor. Essays and interviews round out my list of important factors.

I don't think recommendations or other activities (college athletics) are huge factors. Pretty much every applicant has TONS of activities (lots of college athletes) and generally everyone's form PTCAS recommendations are good.

With your given GPA, it's hard to give you an answer without your pre-req GPA and GRE score. Also, do you have a variety of settings within your observation hours? In general, you don't look too bad. You will easily meet the minimums to apply at schools but it's still very competitive.

Start researching your top schools and look at their application process and preference factors.

Usually GPA (sGPA>cGPA) > GRE > variable observation settings > extra curricular activities
