B.S. Econ 2.5 gpa U of Florida 05'
No MCAT

I am going to volunteer at a local hospital, and with a private physician over the next year. The Moffit Cancer and Research Center is my first choice. Hopefully I will be able to take on special projects as my schedule is pretty wide open. I am hoping this will give me valuable insight into the different medical professions.

In the Spring I will decide on whether to start taking the science pre reqs.
Starting with Chem 1 + lab summer A and Chem 2 + lab summer B.

Fall
Organic + lab
Bio + lab
Physics + lab

Spring
Org 2 Bio 2 Phy 2 + labs.

I would prepare to take the MCAT in August. I dont think I will be able to properly prepare for the April MCAT and finish the spring semester out strong. I am hoping that if I can do well and I have a strong MCAT that I will not have to do an SMP program. I am open to a DO school. I am located in Tampa FL if that matters.

Thoughts? Advice?

Thanks.

i think maybe your 2.5 gpa will still count towards your overall gpa, but since it is from 2005 i am not to sure about it. Even if you would take those pre reqs and do well, unless u can get your overall gpa (including your 2.5) to a 3.5 or better.. you will have to do a smp. Are you in a post bac program right now? or are you just taking those pre req classes? Because if you are in a post bac program you can get special treatment if you do well on the mcats and classes to get into med school. DO schools avg around 3.4gpa and around a 28ish mcat if that is what you are aiming for. GL

the gen chem over the summer is hard but still very possible to do well. but I will say u should only do three sciences, esp orgo, bio and phsics and there labs, all in one semester is prolly not the best thing to do. With the labs, those three classes really turn into 6 and 6 sciences are not easy to deal with at all. Don't wanna discourage but just wanna give some good advice

I appreciate the advice. I realize it would be difficult. My GPA is unflattering and I am hoping that taking a large course load and doing well would prove that my undergrad GPA is not a reflection on my ability or work ethic. I have been thinking about starting in the Spring instead

Spring 09
Chem1 and Bio 1,

Summer 09
A - Chem 2
B- Physics1 or Bio2

Fall 09
Bio 2 or Phy1
Organic 1

Spring
Physics 2
Organic 2
MCAT prep

April MCAT

It sounds more reasonable to me. I want to do well above all. I am Bartending at a night club twice a week so I will have plenty of time to volunteer and attend school.
