Hi

I've been strongly considering Podiatry lately instead of a Ph.D program. If possible, I would like to get started ASAP to start as early as I would like.

It's September 2012, and:

I have not taken the MCAT (or even started studying for it).

I have not shadowed a Podiatrist.

I have a 3.5 GPA with honors from UC Berkeley and a boatload of research experience (2 years working a research job, and an honors thesis from school.

Is there time to scramble together an application? Or should I shoot for next year's cycle? I'd be aiming at CSPM (for the location).

yeah. just take the mcat in January. or February. Or March. you could probably get away with an april date too.

I suggest you start the application, it's free to start one (costs money to submit to schools). That way as you go along you can continue adding to it and send it in as soon as you have everything together. As far as shadowing a DPM goes, you don't need a ton of hours. You need enough to get you familiar with what the profession is all about, and to build a rapport with the podiatrist you are shadowing so you will get a positive LOR. Study for the MCAT (avoid Kaplan like the plague) and try taking it in January/February bc it takes a month to get your scores back. Try to apply by mid-late February so you can schedule interviews in March, with enough time to find good deals on flights. That's my two cents, best of luck to you!
