Specifically for Gas, How likely is it that someone moves from one residency slot to another to change locations? Regardless of the reason behind it, just wanted to understand how residents work in general. When you match, you "sign on" every year after your first year again, so I guess my question is that when you match are you virtually "locked in" to your residency slot?

It is Very unlikely for someone to move to another residency, Unless they changed specialty or were kicked out of a residency. Not finishing a residency or transferring to another residency is a black flag on your resume, every hospital application askes if you didn’t complete a residency and why.
