How long after the kaplan course did you all wait to take the DAT. I am scheduled to take it two weeks after the last Kaplan course day but people in my class say they want to take it as soon as possible after the class gets out. I don't know, I think I need to use those two weeks after the course to use destroyer and topscore just to finish things off. What did you all do?

i think its up to you... i finished the kaplan course in may and I'm still studying...when you feel comfortable, you should take it...but note, kaplan is not enough..alot of ppl have the misconception that just b.c they took kaplan they would be fine....i know a girl who did that...bombed the mcat....and decided to change professions...

Yea that's what I keep hearing...I think that kaplan is going to give me a good foundation and the course will give me a good structure to go by, but yea I think it will be essential for me to study other materials than kaplan in order to get a 20 which is my goal.

We took our diagnostic test today...Wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be for the sciences, biology was a little tough. How do most people do on their diagnostic tests on the first day of the course?

I took the kaplan course last year and intended on taking the DAT last year but realized after the course I wasn't as prepared as I thought I would be and didn't have the time to study for it. Last year I scored pretty much a 17AA which wasn't bad as a diagnostic and no background of studying. I intend on taking my test next month so I've been studying for a couple weeks and have been getting around a 20AA now...hopefully it'll go up 😕 seeing that my GPA isn't so great. Don't worry about the diagnostic...estimate that your points will go up a LOT. 🙂 hope that helps!

Initially last year, I had my Dat scheduled 1 week after kaplan. I found this wasn't enough time for me, so I postponed it another week. That extra week helped a lot to finish up the Kaplan study material online.

All I used was Kaplan, and barron's. All you really need is kaplan. I got 22AA 23TS 21PAT

The Dats is a stressful time, but think of it as a marathon. Runners don't practice days before, they practice months ahead. Aim for 8 hrs studying a day. Start at 1 hr a day, and build up to 8 towards the end of the test.

The diagnostic is a little off. Some sections u'll score better or worst studying w/ kaplan. This is according to my Dat instructor last year. seem to be right.

Sciences: easier on dat (add 1-2 points)
QC: same (same #)
Reading: same (same #)
PAT: harder (substract 1-2 points)

Hey I hear you. There is no time rule on this. I mean after kaplan or any ohter prep course, I would just take some practice tests on my own. When I feel ready that is when I am taking it. It is 100% up to you. You take the test when you are ready, not when someone tells you. Sometimes you may need additional studying materials if you think you still havedifficulty with some concepts. So, make sure you cover all bases before going to take the actual DAT. Good luck.

Well, if you are applying this year. I highly recommend taking it before Sept. That way if you need to retake it, you have December. Also I think it take 2-4 weeks for DAT scores to reach schools.

The optimum goal to increase your odds is to apply early! like around June 1st. Your application would be at the schools around August. Finish your DATs strongly Aug. Get your LORs in before Aug. With those done, your application would be complete and most schools have rowing admissions where they put you at the bottom of the pile and relook you over if you don't qualify the first time.

After, expect a interview before Dec 1st. and You may get a call Dec 1st.
