I've been going to Eastern MI for a year now and I don't really know any of my professors well enough to ask for a LOR. I might be transferring to MSU this fall for my last 2 years and I'm worried I won't get to know any of my professors well enough to get some LORs before application. Anyone have similar experience with transferring schools?

LOR (science) - 3 years (my best one)
LOR (science) - 1 quarter (probably my weakest one)
LOR (non science) - 1 quarter, probably a close tie for best LOR... i actually talk to him alot now. great guy.
LOR (research) - about a year, really really good LOR

I'm only getting 4 letters.

LOR Research - 1 Year
LOR OChem Prof - 1/2 a Year
LOR Business Prof - 3 months

a quarter for the class LORs. a year for my research one, a year for my volunteering one

Two of my research letters were PIs I worked with for about 2 yrs each part-time, and two were from PIs I worked with for 1 yr full-time. I had one letter from the head of my department who I didn't really get to know till late junior year, and my science LOR was from someone I knew outside of class, but I never took a class with him. My list is a little different, though, b/c I'm a MD/PhD student.

I think you should be less worried about the length of time you knew someone and more about the quality of your interaction with your (potential) LOR writers. People transfer schools often and still get good LORs for med school. It's all about you being proactive about making sure you ask the people who can really speak to your talents and potential. Best of luck. :luck:

Our advisory department here at A&M will not let you submit more then 3 letters if you want to use them as a resource.

Non-science (English) - 2 years (friends to date)

2nd science (if I ever get one...urgh) - half a year

A lot of professors will be nice enough to write you a rec without knowing you... I got my O chem professor to write me one, even though the class was 300+ people and I never showed up and never talked to him... And I got a B in that class 2nd semester...
