Hey guys, I have decided to retake my DAT.
However, I feel like I do not have enough time to study.
Do you think it is possible to get a 20+ by studying one month hard core?
Or is it too short to even review the materials?

How long did it take for you guys to prepare for DAT?

Firstly, I am not applying this cycle and I haven't taken the DAT, but I have studied an average of 4 serious hours (it was actually 6 but distractions) each day for 2 weeks. Planning on taking it 1 month, probably won't unless my practice scores say otherwise...

Sorry, buddy but I'm gettin' sick and tired of seeing this type of posts. Don't you know that the amount of studying varies with each individual? Everyone has different mental capacities and ability to grasp information. So think about it, is asking this question really going to help you? And obviously, posting this question means that you don't know your own capabilities and therefore do not know how much time you'll need and how to go about studying. You're in college, having taken many courses and studied for many exams... shouldn't you know all these things by now??? If you don't know when will you? How will you possibly succeed in dental school? I hope for your own sake and for everyone out there who thinks about posting this ******ed question in the future that you figure this all out before you ever move onto graduate school...

Look, the OP is just worried about his lack of time and wants to see if it has been done successfully in under a month.

I'm sure he knows his study capabilities but he is on the fence as to proceed or not...the responses he gets would give that push to yes or no.

Take it easy on him 🙂

I'm sure it's happened before and those who have done it may answer his post and encourage him to go on. From what i've seen on SDN though, there aren't too many people who post their unsuccessful attempt and warn him not to do so, which may possibly be the right thing for the OP to do. So he's gonna blindly trust a few people and possibly get a false sense of hope? That, to me, is dangerous. What if those that have successfully done it but are much smarter than him?

To the OP, are you just trying to get reassurance? Because I don't know how you'll make a sound decision based on answers from a few SDNers. There are too many factors that must be considered and analyzed (like doing a statistical analysis for this very specific situation) for you to honestly make the best decision. I think the best advice for you is ...take practice tests spacing them out over the next month, gauge how well/bad you're doing, and then make a decision near the end of the month whether you should postpone it or not. And people please stop answering these types of posts with "i studied xxx #s of hours and it worked for me. you'll be ok".

Man foreal..if you don't like the thread then don't look at it.

To OP. Its very possible, you just need the right resources and schedule. Cliff's AP bio, CrackDATPAT, destroyer, kaplan for orgo/chem or princeton for orgo/chem, and whatever you want to add onto the list.

Listen Buddy, if you don't like the question, don't answer it. If you do answer it, be nice. How is the OP suppose to feel after reading your brutal response? Yes you do make some valid points, but the way you addressed his question was unncessary.

To the OP, like many others have said, based on your study abilities you should have an idea of how well and how long you need to study. Personally for me I'm a slow learner so I am giving myself more time to study for the DAT. For example, I posted a thread asking how long it took everyone to get through the Kaplan Bio portion in the BB. Everyone pretty much said that it took them 3-4 days, while for me it took 3 weeks. Only you know your capabilities. Remember you can always postpone the test. Its better to go in ready. Best of luck to you and stay mentally strong. 😎

Don't let certain posts discourage you. We're all here to help and support each other.

Trust me xaznxcountx, i've been very nice and helpful in the past when I've seen posts like these. You want proof? Look at my posting history. I've seen so many similar threads that pretty much respond, "yeah I studied for so and so hours and you can do it" type of answers that I got sick ...sick of the OP who ask these questions (some seriously needing to have a moment of introspection) and to the SDNers who post worthless answers to these ever-so important questions (and evidently you experienced this yourself). FINALLY after I stirred things up a bit did I get a good response from someone like you. Way to go. It was sort of a test to see who would actually step up to the plate and provide a MEANINGFUL advice. Besides, didn't you also see my other response on here in which I gave the OP some good advice? Oh, I guess you missed that.

By the way, this one's for you, buddy. :smack:

I'm 110% with you on this one. Even more so, I'd rather hear advice as "brutal" as it is knowing it's the truth rather than a lot of false sense of hope/lies/whatever you want to call them. From my experiences on SDN, there's a lot of very "competitive" people on here and the advice that's given isn't always in the best interest of the OP. If I were the OP, I think dent2009's responses have been by far the most helpful. Just me 2 cents though. beat on me all you want, I could care less. I'm with dent2009 on this one.

This really varies with each person like everyone has said, For me personally I dont think u can ever be prepared for the test. Haha. Just start early and study hard and don't give up!

look at me and whoaaitzkyle. we got 2+year member meaning we've been hear for over 2 yrs or more. I think that should give u an idea 😀

Hey kudos to you for being supportive in the past. However, we are in the present, and no one really cares how many times you have been supportive because you officially ran out of your "nice" juice when we are talking specifically about this post. But thats fine I guess some people are less tolerant of those who want some advice. The OP only had 5 posts and wanted to ask a simple question. If you're really annoyed by his/her question then why answer it? If you have nothing nice to say, don't even bother signing into SDN, lest you stir up more bulls***. O yeah, don't flatter yourself by thinking I would even look at your old posts. Thats all I'm going to say about this, I don't want you to keep embarrassing yourself. And yes, this thread is going nowhere.

Damn it, whatever your name is, x... Why do you continue to argue with me??? PEOPLE!!!! Are the points I made in this thread not VALID? Come on, you know i'm right about all those things that I said. Don't be mad. Some people need a dose of reality check and I decided to give it to this particular OP. Perhaps you need one too. Why do you assume that everyone on here needs to be nice? Do you see people holding hands and singing Kumbayas in the background? If you do, then start laying easy on those "special" herbs, buddy. Last time I checked, this is reality and not everyone needs to be nice to be encouraging. We're talking about someone's future and I'm concerned for my fellow SDNer. I'm giving constructive (but harsh) criticism and analysis of OP's circumstance. So what's wrong with that? Sounds like you, my friend, are also one of those people that can't handle the truth if told straight to your face. Besides, reeeeaaad the wooooords thaaaat I tyyyype neeeext veeeery carefuuuuullyyyyyy since you missed it on my previous posts here on this thread... I gave the OP a good advice in case you thought I was all Dr. Evil on his ass. Gee, you're the one being harsh now. Take a chill pill and just go back to singing your kumbayas.

This thread is going nowhere??? Well, I just wanted to state my point that I will continue to give advice the way I want. Oh yeah, in case you don't know what this is... I :welcome: you to SDN, a PUBLIC forum.

I agreed with Dent2009 on this. We all come from different schools and study differently from one another. He was just telling the OP to do his best and use his own judgements.

All I have is a famous quote for the likes of dent2009 and xazncountx

Arguing on the internet is like running in the special Olympics: You may win, but you're still ******ed!

And I give a special shout out to dent2009 for having nothing better to do than to make a long-winded post discussing special herbs, using those dumb moving face icons, and tyyypppinnnng liiikkkeee thhhiiiisss, which is something I think the 10 year-olds do over in the Nickelodeon forum.

What can I say EmoryEagle? I figured I have some time on my hands and give myself a little bit of a break after scoring 22/24/19. Not certainly the best but wouldn't you agree that it's good considering i'm in the top 5%? Oh yeah, and how do you know that the 10 year olds tyyyyyype liiiiikkeee thiiisss? Honestly, as a caring fellow SDNer, I highly suggest you stop going to the Nickelodeon Forum right away... those feds probably monitor those sites for shady characters like you. Oh and I truly do appreciate your comparing my arguing on the internet with your own life experience... so ladies and gentleman please allow me to repeat this one more time for our special olympics participant who has a difficult time understanding that the SDN is a public forum where "all opinions and viewpoints are welcomed".

i actually never got to read your reply because i was gone all morning. I never bothered searching to see if you wrote back, but now that you wrote another message in an attempt to bump the thread back to the top of the list, I can only sit and smile.

Hey I wanted to hear what you had to say... just as I thought, basically nothing...

I know there is a lot of hateratin' the hater, but the question IS ridiculous. How do you gauge the person's capabilities to do well in a month? You can't!! We don't know that person. We're going into a profession in which we SHOULD BE ABLE TO THINK FOR OURSELVES. I answered it briefly without hating on the OP, but I definitely understand the hater comments. It's just a dumb question. Perhaps, it's time to close this thread?

agreed 👍

where are the admins these days? Last year, the admins were all about closing these kind of threads before they got out of hand.

Until I finished all I wanted to and felt like I was ready.
Plan...but not at the last minute. As far as you studying for a month...no one can answer that better than you can!
