How long did your school give you to prepare for the Boards?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
8 weeks, but the vast majority took it between 4.5-5.5 weeks. I thought 5.5 weeks was perfect - not so long that I lost my focus, but not so short that I felt like I had to cut out some studying.

8 weeks, if they gave me more time of course I would have used it.

We had five weeks off between second and third year. Most students study for about three weeks before taking the exam. They still tend to do pretty well, though not quite SDN average.

Was it enough? If not, how much longer would you have wanted?

Thanks!

We may only get 2 weeks. 😡 The COMLEX is becoming computerized this year and is offered at the end of May for 3-4 days and then again starting June 12th. Well, that would be nice only if school didn't end mid-May and rotations didn't start ON June 12th!

damn...our school gives us 5 for boards and your 'vacation'
--that's just not enough time!

At P&S, 6 weeks. My plan is to take 4, and take 2 for vacation. 3rd yr starts on my bday 🙁

Is it possible to take more? Like lets say 8 weeks, if you really wanted a great score?

My school gives 8 at the most. Most take 6 wks and a 2 wk vacation. I think I am going to take a 2 wk vacation right after classes end and then take 5.5 wks to study.

CCOM is doing the same thing, except I think we are getting 3 weeks. They are moving our final exams up one week to "grant us" another week of studying before boards.

At BU we get 6 weeks off between the end of 2nd year and the beginning of clerkships, but after spring break they stop scheduling classes after 12:00.

Cornell gives you seven and a half weeks.... i'm not sure how much of that time i'm going to take to study for the boards, probably about 5-6 weeks.

Don't they start, traditionally, in July?

At other schools, yes. Rotations usually start either in July or August.

At PCOM, no. June 12th remains the 1st day of rotations. I'm registered to take the COMLEX May 30th and the USMLE Step 1 on June 9th. So much for taking a vacation after boards!

I get about seven weeks. I'm going to take about five weeks and then take a nice relaxing two week vacation.
