How long does AAMC background check take?

I submitted Application Station background check two and a half weeks ago and the background investigation is still in progress. Is it normal to take that long? Also, do I need to pay for it? I don't remember if I submitted any payment.

Mine took one and a half days from submission, and no, you don't have to pay for it.

Mine took one day (plus or minus a couple hours).

One or two days. They might have emailed you asking for extra information and you not seen it.

Definitely call.

Have u lived in another country? ? Mine is taking long because I spent most of my life outside the USA so that might be a factor

Thanks for the replies. I didn't notice any email from them but I'll try calling during office hours. Yes, I've lived in another country. That might be the reason.

Just wait patiently. Patience is a virtue. You have nothing to hide. How long the background check takes will depend on your background and whether you've lived in many places and/or have had different names. It'll obviously be harder for them to find criminal records for someone who lived in Mexico for 10 years than for someone who was born and raised in suburbia, USA.

Mine took a couple of weeks and I have nothing complicated in my background.
