Hey, I'm Canadian and I'm currently waitlisted at two US schools. I was wondering, if I were to get into one of those schools in, say, next June while the school starts in Aug, would I have time to get a visa to the US within two months? How long does it take to get a visa? And is it possible for anyone's visa application to be rejected even if they have an acceptance when they apply?

If the timeline is anything like getting a student visa as an undergrad, you should be fine. I did my student visa interview for UG in June, got the visa a month later, and then was in the US by the first week of August. (I don't remember though how quickly I got the interview after filing my student visa application...) Also, if you're going to medical school, you shouldn't have to worry to much about getting rejected for a visa, as long as you have strong ties to Canada and you maintain the position that you are going back to Canada after you finish your schooling. Student visas are usually rejected when it's for some random community college, and it seems like the person is just trying to get the student visa as an excuse to enter the US legally, but intends to stay after finishing up his or her degree.

As a Canadian, you should have no problems getting into the States and starting school even if your visa isn't ready right away, no?

This would actually be illegal - if a foreign national is entering US to attend school they need to enter with a proper visa. Visa waiver program is for tourism and business, not for education. OP could be deported if they entered the US with an intention to attend school but under the visa waiver program.

Lol, that's definitely good to know.

OP, don't listen to me; I'm apparently trying to get you deported lol

I would also talk to the school's international student department. You are going to be working with them a lot to get all the necessary documents to get you a visa, and they are probably your best resource!

I don't know the answer to this, but would this be an option:

apply to a US school for basically anything....another Bachelors, a masters, maybe even a CC, or whatever, and with that acceptance could you "get the ball rolling" and then change the school if the med school acceptance comes thru at the last minute.

Would this be possible? It wouldn't be any different from an int'l applicant who gets accepted to one undergrad, and then last minute comes off the WL of another.
