k so i am applying this may 2008... so i was wondering how early will the secondaries start coming in? and how quickly do they have to be returned?

also, by tomorrow i have to say yes/no to a full time job for summer that will pay me real good... should i turn it down because i need to conentrate on my secondaries (considering i m not very proficient in writing essays and take a long time)? how long does it take to fill them? will i be able to handle both of them together?

thanks,

You’ll have quite a bit of time on your hands if you turn down a job just for secondaries. Most schools just want a check, while less than half will have a supplemental application to fill out (or copy from you AADSAS app), and even fewer required essays.

If you needed time for DAT’s I would consider it, however for secondaries don’t even flinch at turning down the job.

thanks a lot.....

more feedbacks from other SDNers appreciated!

i dont remember the exact date of getting secondaries, but i do know some of them took a long time. UCLA and UCSF secondaries took me the longest. i practically had to write a new personal statement. they ask a lot of questions and i just wanted to write a good amount for each question.

i think you should have plenty of time to fill them out. i think they require you to finish them within 30 days. i would recommend trying to finish early as possible because the schools needs secondaries to start looking at your application.

i dont think you should quit your job. you should have plenty of time at night to do it? also, worst comes to worst just take a day off?

Penn's secondary is the only one that took some time for me. The other secondaries asked for name, schools, courses and what not.

Midwestern and AT Stills took some time as well, but nothing you couldn;t complete in a few nights after work.

when did everyone start getting the secondaries? I'm thinking about studying abroad the year that I apply...

Save any essays you write for your secondaries so that you can reuse them on other ones. A lot of the questions were similar enough that I just adjusted my answer a bit and then cut and pasted it. The cummulative time necessary for filling out a secondary (w/ essays) from scratch is about 1-2 hours. But most schools only ask for your money.

As far as supplementary applications go, will the school contact you to fill these out. Or will you just be expected to fill them out. If the school does contact you, does anyone know how long this normally takes.

They will contact you. Some schools have theirs online already, so you can scour their website for it if you want to get a head start. Usually they're found under "application procedures".

UNC and UPenn has the longest secondaries....most other schools have none!
