My first day of orientation is starting in less than 2 weeks but I still haven't received my resident license yet.

Does anyone know how long it usually takes to get a resident license in state of Iowa?

I submitted my application on 3/19 but haven't heard anything yet except when they sent me a fingerprint card, which I also returned immediately in early April. Since then, I contacted them a couple of times via email but haven't received any reply.

I emailed our program coordinator; she says it should be ok but I just want to make sure if this will prevent me from starting my residency. TIA.

If your program says you'll be OK, you'll probably be OK. Assuming that your program coordinator isn't brand new, they've seen this all happen before and have a general grasp of the timeline. If your program coordinator is brand new, you can consider asking the GME office at your institution.

If you're still nervous, call the licensing board tomorrow. If it's anything like the ones I've had the pleasure of interacting with before, prepare to be on hold for a good hour before they give you some not so super useful information.

Not sure if you already checked, but on the online services page of the Iowa Board of Medicine website it allows you to sign into your account and check on the status of your license. If you click on "Details" it will tell you what is still outstanding. The last thing after the fingerprint card they needed from me was my medical school diploma. Once I sent them a copy of my diploma, my resident license was granted the same day. And also don't hesitate to call them. From the couple of times I called them, they were pretty nice and I was able to get my questions answered. Hope this helps!
