Hi,

I got a phone call informing me that my application is going under review. Does anyone have any idea how long they usually take to review your application until email you for interview?

Thank you for your input in advance!

No time at all... you will hear back quickly.

Last year they didn't give calls to explain that your app was going under review (and giving calls in my opinion for a review is really weird....) but, they rejected and accepted for interview pretty fast.

If I recall, people had sent in their secondary fee and received a rejection letter by the next week! haha (NOVA is a bunch of crooks).

There's definitely truth to that and it's why I'm not bothering to apply there 😛 Looking at the stats of those they accept, maybe they think they're the next Harvard? Not trying to be mean, just stating what I've seen from the school. Good luck to anyone applying :luck:

Why do you say that? Just curious.

Not to butt in on this, but from my experience they make it seem like you have a decent shot at being granted an interview when I called and asked if I would be considered a competitive applicant. Then they pull the switcheroo and 2 days later, after you've given them your money, now it's a different story and you get rejected fairly quickly. Maybe I'm just bitter about it, but it just seemed like I was deliberately being cheated out of my money for their supp app fee when they have some number already set (maybe?) that if you're below this for either GPA or DAT they don't consider you (but of course that's not what they let on). And I know this isn't just me, there's been more than a handful of classmates and friends of mine that have said the same thing.

If you take a look at the stats they typically accept, they're near the top of the list when comparing all of the US dental schools and I'm not sure why. I guess a lot of people want to live near Miami?

Sounds like an awful lot of bitterness. I was a long time lurker last year when I applied and was lucky to be accepted to both nova and my state school (UF) and I'm sorry but Im sick of seeing people post BS like this. If you haven't figured it out by now, dental school is a business (like most things in life) and I sent lots of other schools checks who rejected me a week later...doesn't mean they're run by "crooks," it's just part of the game. Nothing is wrong with nova as a school and being a Florida resident, I know many of great, successful dentists and specialists who graduated from there. While I chose not to attend there because I had a cheaper option, it's still a good dental school and everyone who graduates from there will be a dentist. Who cares that it's not Harvard. My father is a physician and went to a a public medical school, but guess what? We live right next door to two doctors who went to Harvard and Penn medical school and we live in the same house and he drives just as nice of a car as them. It doesn't matter. Dental schools is the same way. It's all on you how successful you come out.

Nova did not handle things very professionally last year. I'm not someone that was WL there and then eventually got rejected and hates the Nova "system." I was accepted to plenty of schools and am happy with they way things turned out last year, so, I don't feel like my statements are based on some "grudge." I think Nova is as good as the next school. But, after applying to may schools and seeing how they treat their applicants, I would have to say that I was most disappointed with Nova. And the other poster was not saying they are NOT Harvard, the poster was saying that Nova is trying to be LIKE Harvard (big difference).

Enjoy Florida.

👍 Agreed.

I didn't post what I did to badmouth Nova, it seems like an excellent school and I know 2 people attending the school now and they love it! I was just commenting on how they handle applicants as well and, sure, obviously dental school admissions is business, but I still got the feeling they were leading people on for the money. Again, obviously they would not be the only school who does this, but the way they went about it didn't sit well with me. To each their own though, we all know what opinions are like 😛

Agreed! I go to nova and its a very nice school!

Nova is a great school. How they treat their applicants is not indicative of the type of dentist that will graduate from there or the training they receive. Yes, the application process with NOVA was not the best for many applicants compared to other schools, but that is in no way bad mouthing the school. There are aspects of all schools that can be picked apart by applicants. UCLA does not have the most efficient admissions office but I still think it's a wonderful school.

STOP BADMOUTHING MY SCHOOL MAN!😡

Thank you all for your input!

I hope I hear something back from them soon.
