How long for RR margin notes?

Anybody have a good idea of how long it takes to read just the margin notes in RR? I was thinking about reading margin notes, charts, and picture captions, but that might take too long.

it took me 5 min to read the margin notes in the first chapter (20 pages).. thats my only sample size.. but i also didnt need to read anything extra in that chapter.

so if you stick to JUST margin notes itll be real quick, but some of those tables are REALLY long, espec for the bugs.. in fact.. i think im gonna stick to FA for the pathogen charts, since its actually good and i annotated in everything thats missing by now.

I'm planning on doing this near my exam. I too would like to know how long other people took to do this. I'm probably going to try to do the margin notes, charts, and pictures and hopefully get them done in one day.

My path professor (and hes not that much older than us), told us that the day before his test he opened up Robbins and just looked at the images.. took him 12 hrs to go through the whole book only looking at the images, and he said all but about maybe 2 images, werent in robbins..


now I dont think i can put up with ever opening that book again.. but just more food for thought if you got the time.

I did GI today (~80 pages) and it took me about 1-1.5 hrs to do margin notes, tables, and images

so u figure about 1 minute per page on average x 600 pages = 10 hours MAX (i could see someone easily getting through it in 8 hours or less)

ok its taking me about 1.25 min/pg for margins charts and pictures. Thats a little slower than jmayer said he went so if I stay at this speed thats 12.5 hours. Its my last two days so I'm not sure if thats worth it or not. I could probably get through 250 pgs of First aid in that same amount of time. What do you guys think would be better between 250 pages of First Aid or all the margin notes, charts, and pictures in RR? Also take into account that I just read RR and FA in the last ten days. I almost think its a toss up.

starting the taus 3 day tommrow. Will go through the first half of RR: margin notes, boxes and charts, followed by all of biochem and memorizing in immuno just follow that plan till test day on tuesday

yeah 150 pages in, I'm thinking its definitely worth it. The first few chapters its not that great

Hmm, perhaps I'll have to rework this into my schedule. I was afraid it might seem too disjointed reading the margin notes straight through.

I'm doing that right now. I did the first half of the book last night (~300 pages) in about 4 hours. I just read margin notes and pictures. I referenced the text only when the margin note didn't make sense on its own.

I'd budget 2 days for it, but you could get through all of the margin notes alone in one if you hauled ass. If you're looking at pictures and reading tables, 2 days is what I'd expect it to take. I seriously doubt you'll find a better way to use 2 days.

so i may get flamed for this but.. im debating between doing this the last 2 days or watching the kaplan patho vids on 2x (they're a total of 24 hrs so i could hopefully do em in 12ish).. I figured if I did the kaplan vids I'd get a last second look at pictures + get high yield info.. plus its less stressful + less passive then reading..

suggestions?

It took me 11 hours to get through all the rr notes. 5 hours on the first day for pages 1 through 300 and then 6 hours on the second day for pages 300 through 600. That includes pictures captions and side notes only.

Dumb question, but is there any advantages to reading the text as opposed to the margin notes? I feel like I would be missing out on key details if I read the margin notes...

Or did you guys read RR once already, and this is just a second quick pass?

If you have the time, read the book with corresponding FA sections. If you are running low on time, margin notes at the end of your study should hit you with some high yield info.

Robbins is def helpful for images and diagrams it has. Complimenting just the images or outline of robbins with RR and FA is best. Anyone using BRS Path?

I've been through RR twice already so my 8 hrs spent on liner notes/pictures was just a quick last pass. I have 3 days left and am really thinking of skimming them again...

Reading the margin notes might be helpful by itself to a certain extent, but most people that are doing this have already read the whole book. I've read the book multiple times and listened to the audio while following along with the book more than once throughout the year, so I'm already very familiar with the info. This just helps you kind of jog your memory.

took me about 4 hours or so to get through 300 pages of the notes, pics and charts. Again like someone said before, this is my 3rd or 4th time going through the book so im very familar with it. Those who havent gone through it several times will take longer to get through the margin notes.

FWI, a friend of mine who took Falcon Review with Goljan mentioned that Goljan said if you know the side notes and can elaborate a bit on them, you will be solid for the exam.

Thanks to everyone who posted🙂 I wanted some reassurance that the 2-day split of Goljan margin notes in the Taus plan is doable, since I've read the book a couple of times already. 👍
