how long is the personal statement?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It must be less than 4500 characters with spaces...I know the limit all too well these days.

you know, i seriously thought about leaving a cliffhanger ending, but leaving room for a webpage link that had the rest of my personal statement
so it's like, "the reason i want to pursue dentistry is because...http://www.geocities.com/personal statement" or something. this would probably be a terrible idea but it did come across my mind.

Geocities. That reminds me of ugly old HTML. Banners and blinking.

They might not be happy with a link if they're looking at a paper copy. Half of the questions at one of my interviews came from notes and highlights he has on my statement. Good to know it was read.

Damn I thought they meant 4500 words...I have 2900 words....Back to work now...yikes!!!

4500 is the absolute maximum number of characters.

I've always thought you should try to say what needs to be said in around 4000-4200, if possible.

Brevity is the soul of wit...and you should aim for the most concentrated piece of writing that is possibly obtainable when writing a PS.

Is there any way to know the characters you have entered on AADSAS? My statement is so close to 4500 words (4492) that I am afraid I may enter a space wrong and the tail end will get cut off. Will it allow you to enter something that is too long?

Not words, characters and spaces! I made the same mistake and had to cut mind down to a 1/3 of the original length. The upside is now it's perfect! I love my personal statement now that it's short and to the point!

I think so. This is below the box you enter it in:

"After editing your statement, click SAVE then press VIEW PERSONAL STATEMENT to review the text. Verify the format and watch for any words or characters that did not display properly. Re-edit then re-save your statement if necessary."

I think it'll either cut off anything over 4500, or won't allow you to save. I don't remember for sure. I'm not sure why I can still see my application while others can't log in now.

Thank you for the quick reply, it sounds like you are able to view your statement after it is loaded into the application then, which should let me know if I cut it off!
