My application has been finished for 8 days. However, I still haven't sent it in. This is because I'm waiting for a letter, and, since my school does letter packets, I'm pretty sure I can't submit until I have all the letters in.
Back story: this letter is my non-science professor letter. I majored in a humanities field, and thus this letter is relatively important. This professor likes me a lot and has written for me in the past. He submitted a letter to my school about a week ago, but also sent it to me to look over.
The letter wasn't great. It was two paragraphs of dully restating my CV with a short paragraph of adulation about my humanities exploits. Before you ask, I know this guy likes me and thinks highly of me, but this wasn't the letter I wanted.
Tallying this up to the fact that I'm positive he's never sent a med school reference letter before, I politely asked for a rewrite and sent him the AAMC letter writing guidelines, asking him to leave out the science stuff and to focus on my humanities work. He wasn't offended, apologized, and kindly agreed. This was a week ago. I sent him a reminder recently, but I'm not sure how much longer I can wait to submit.
I have used the time to over-revise my PS and activities, but they can't get any better at this point. Is there a point where it behooves me to submit with an imperfect letter (I have 4 other strong letters) over waiting and waiting?
Thanks.
