For everyone who has worked as a tech....how long did it take you before you felt comfortable with your job. Ive been working at a grocery store pharmacy in nw montana for a few weeks as an intern.(I didn't have any experience prior to starting there). It sucks because I didn't get any formal training at all, they just threw me in the mix. The store is pretty busy too.. 400-500 scripts a day, and very understaffed. I havent taken on that many duties yet...running the register, answering the phones, and filling perscriptions. Hopefully Ill learn the computer system soon, and learn more things. Its just hard for me to gauge if Im coming along well enough. I think Im doing a decent job...except I still have trouble finding some medications, and thats causes me to get backed up on counting, but Ill learn where everything is eventually. It also sucks because I don't know how to answer alot of questions that get asked, and I have to bother a pharmacist or another tech, and they are never thrilled about that.

it took me at LEAST 6 months to feel semi comfortable working. ive been a tech since aug. 06, so about a year and a half, and I still have so many questions all the time, and have to ask the pharmacist for help, whether it be with the computer system or an issue with a customer/patient.

its a very hard learning curve, because the issues that arise are different day to day, and you have to constantly problem solve and learn new things.

i would try and observe others while they are using the computer, and ask them to go slower to teach you. make note cards even on multiple step processes if they are hard to remember...ex. split bill insurances or backbilling
