(Kentucky is on a letter grading system, and doesn't do the whole Honors / High Pass / Pass thing, so I'm not quite sure how to compare those)

Class Rank: 23/89 (at the end of 3rd year)
Preclinical - 3.34 GPA (started badly the first semester, but came back to get almost all A's after that, including the Pathology Honor Society award)
Clinical - 4.00 GPA (including Honors in EM).
Did EM rotations at Kentucky and East Carolina.
Step 1 - 242
Step 2 - 249
Research as an undergraduate, one publication in zoology.
Some extracurriculars.
35 applications, 26 interview offers, went to and ranked 10.

Great LOR's, research in college and several small EM projects in med school (publications & presentations weren't done for ERAS)

Applied to 33, offered 23, went to 14, ranked 12...

I'm going to USC. Went all the way to #7 on my list. I was somewhat surprised that so many programs passed, though I have some thoughts as to why. I'm not dissappointed with USC, only the rejections from other programs.

We come from a school with no EM program, so we did away rotations at the University of Arizona and UT southwestern. We applied to a variety of programs, but eventually decided that for us large 3 year programs with high acuity patients would be the best fit. Couples matching is no fun and a couple of programs invited us for interviews only to state that they would not rank us highly. I guess they didn't figure out we were couples matching until we showed up. (we did make it difficult by having the same address, same last name, and registering for the couples match which is listed on the first page of the application. 😉

Got my #1, Hennepin County.

Was in the top 25% for years 1-3, honored in about 1/2 of courses. Choked on Step 1 but came back big on Step 2. Did EM rotations at HCMC and Kzoo (loved them both), got honors and great letters.

Applied to 40 programs and got 32 invites, accepted 15 from all over the country.

Feel bad for those who had a negative interviewing experience at HCMC. During my rotation felt very well treated, actually thought there was a lot of respect shown by everyone in the ED. Had a tough choice with my rank list, a lot of great programs out there!

I also had a great time during my month there. Just about everyone was great, there were maybe 1-2 people that I could see as potentially difficult to work with. I ended up putting them number 2. I had a hard time deciding btw my top 3. Well I wish you the best of luck come july, tell me how it is. 🙂

Can relate about the trouble with your top three. I was really struggling between HCMC, Indy and Maricopa. All great county programs but all pretty different. HCMC's trauma is the best I've seen (and with 15 interview's I saw a lot). Loved the flight experience and "extra's" at Indy. Maricopa's got excellent trauma and Phoenix has the most flight's of anywhere in the country (thought it's not in the cirriculum is an opportunity for someone who is motivated) - and it's in Phoenix!

Guess I better not throw away my snowboots! But as a very astute attending once told me "what do you care where you go, it's always 70 degrees and dry in any hospital, and that's all you're gonna see for the next three years!"😱

This just goes to show that you can be a pretty average MS4 and not only rank in EM but even get your top choice. So don't get scared off by not being spectacular.

I got my numero uno, U of Arizona. I see I'll be working with JayDoc soon. Unfortunately, my friend from my school didn't match with us🙁. By the way, how is your garden on County Line Road. Amazing what you can find on the web isn't it? (Or did I guess wrong who you are?)

As for JeffKickedBackTheDude..(sp?)..what the hell were we doing in Upstate New York? Congratulations. See you in the desert.

As for MikeCWRU, too much info. Also curious of what your definition of satisfactory is. At my school, its about the equivalent of low pass.

And for everyone else, what's up with these nutso board scores. The average scores on this site seem to be about 245. Does that seem a little high to anyone else? Is it that people only post their scores if they're above average, or that only above average people go into EM, or that only above average people know how to use the web, or that we're all big fat liars! (See my stats below)

President SAEM, President ACEP, President-Elect ACOG (Yea, I told an obstetrician once that I thought C-sections were cool.)

Interviews- Applied to all programs, invited to interview at all, interviewed at all, and ranked all. (Yea, it was pretty expensive.)
