Hi there!
Well I finally got down this summer studying and took the DAT.
I wanted to know typically how low of a GPA (overall and science) can I have and STILL get accepted with the following DAT scores. I just wanted to get some people's opinions out there...

DAT AA 22
Nat Sci 22
Bio 19
GChem 23
OChem 25
RC 22
QR 23
PAT 19

The DAT scores are competitive...So I guess what I'm asking if you were an ADCOM what would be the lowest GPA (overall and science) you would be willing to accept???😀

I second that, a 3.0, depeding on which schools you're looking at, for some schools that could be too low. Just do some research when picking ur schools.

I had AA 22 but much higher scores for bio and ochem. That sucks eh? but anyways, I think 3.2 min. but then again we are not on the commity and if they see something they like they will invite you. GL

When did you complete your application?

Have you been invited to any interviews yet?

I got very similar scores to yours and I have a 3.4 cGPA and a 3.5 sGPA and only have 2 interviews

Look around on predents.com, I saw some in the 2.5 range.

You know who could answer this question a lot better than random predents? Try calling the schools, they are usually pretty honest and up front about minimums and if you would be competitive.

Good Luck

That's ridiculous...when did you apply/how was the rest of your app? I have lower scores scores and lower gpa and I have 7 interviews. If you haven't gotten more, then you will soon.

i think my 16 pat is really bringing me down.😕

Patience is key. I have a 2.8 gpa and this is my second year applying. I know that my gpa is horrible and I don't expect anyone to give me a chance. But the fact is that I screwed up early in college but I made up for it my last two years averaging about a 3.2, which I will say still isn't great. I also only scored a 17AA/18TS/20PAT on the DAT which isn't great either. Last year I didn't get even one interview. So I decided that the only way that I was going to be able to boost my application and give myself a chance is to do a masters program. I am currently doing my first year of masters in oral biology and yesterday I got my first interview invite. Just be persistant and do whatever you can to improve your application. Sooner or later the schools will see your dedication.

Heh, congrats karntrev!

being competitive is more than just gpa and DAT, extra curriculars(leadership positions), research, dental internships etc...can help make up for your gpa.

I don't think that a lot of your extracurriculars make as much of a deal unless you get an interview, then your volunteering, research, etc. really pay off. However I do agree that if offered an interview whether you have a low or high gpa these can be a deal breaker for some schools. So if you do have a low gpa lots of volunteering, research, and leadership will pay off in the end.
