I attended a lecture from the Admissions director at UIC PT school(where i'm an undergrad). she made it sound like if u have any C's on your transcript, then u better take the classes over. I already have two C's from physics and, so far, my Chem 1 grades aren't looking too good. its not that I can't learn the material, its just that the tests are impossible. So, my question is, did anyone apply with a few C's in their prereqs and get in anyway? i should mention that my overall GPA is a 3.68 right now. we'll see what happens w/ chem this semester tho....
any input is appreciated..i really need some reassurence

Eh, I applied with 2 Cs on my transcript...one in biochemistry (because I had a teacher that hardly spoke English, and so I didn't learn very much at all), and one in Gen. Chem II.

I was accepted NYIT...my overall GPA was a 3.4 and my prerequisite GPA was 3.5 I think? Granted, I applied to 3 other schools that I got rejected from, but I know it has a lot to do with more than just my GPA 😛

It has a lot to do with the competitiveness of the program you're applying to, and what the applicant pool for that year is. But, in general, PT programs seem to be getting more competitive, with more applicants with stronger credentials each year. As a rule, I would say that C's are not good.. only one or two tops, and I would still consider taking them again. If they are core sciences classes, as yours are, I would DEFINITELY recommend re-taking as it's actually your math/science GPA that factors into the admissions process - your overall GPA is simply a cutoff point for applying. This was/is the case for my school anyway, and I know that it is for most (though I can't attest to them all). Your physics grades are especially important as you will need a good understanding for biomechanics.

Should you apply with these C's anyway, you'll need a good GRE score to somewhat counter it.

I have been accepted to PT school. My first semester of college I was at a very difficult school - ended up with Cs in Bio 1 and Chem 1. The chemistry tests were truly impossible...I went to a good high school and had As in chemistry there, but this particular class/professor was just very difficult. Long story short the college I graduated from was not as difficult and I ended up with mostly As and a few Bs for pre-reqs. My overall ended up as a 3.67 and I think my math/science was 3.4. However, I also had a strong GRE score and a high GPA in my graduate degree.

I think you have to look at your application and ask yourself "How much does this show that I can handle advanced, graduate-level science coursework?" If you have some Cs in pre-reqs, you need to show this elsewhere (GRE score, etc.). Retaking can certainly be an option.
