Hello guys, just a quick question here. I am currently looking to rack up some observation hours this semester, as I have Mondays and Fridays off. I have gotten the okay to observe at a local clinic Mondays or Fridays, or both, but opted to do Fridays as they are only open a half a day ( more study time for me). On Monday's I am doing some ride-alongs with a therapist for home health. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on how many hrs to complete with the home health therapist. My goal is roughly 20-25 hrs. Do you think that will be efficient? I know its quality over quantity but I was sufficient time to adequately learn the ropes in home health. Also, how many different settings or places have you guys observed at? By the end of the semester I will have successfully observed/ worked at 4 clinics. Winter break I plan on completing my internship, while observing a pediatric therapist once a week. But, I don't want the stress of observing to hurt my grades, as my GPA is 3.88 right now, and I will be starting Physics this fall. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I've gotten 200 hours in 3 years, mostly outpatient ortho but variety is good, both for the application and for your own sanity. I've done nursing home, inpatient rehab (neuro, geriatric, cardiovascular), inpatient acute care, and pediatrics as well.

Good idea in trying different variety of settings 👍. Most PT programs that I've looked into wanted at least 2 different settings. And its actually a plus to have more. I think you planning it out quite well, just time manage and figure out your schedule. For your question about the number of hours, i saw a few that wanted at least 25hrs for inpatient hospital setting. Not sure about Home health care. I want to say 25hrs is fine, but check into the program on specifics. Each program is a little different.

I got about 200+ hrs in hospital acute amputee & surgery rehab inpatient and subacute orthopedic rehab outpaitent; and outpatient PT sports medicine rehab clinic (still increasing for all areas) with in the last 7months. So three places 🙂 Really hoping to get a pt aide job soon and they'll add another one.

Good luck!!
