I have seen some posts lately where people talk about the average accepted GPA of DO applicants. Many posters think that the average GPA of accepted DO applicants is only around 3.5 because of the grade replacement that AACOMAS allows for retaken courses.

Personally, I only used grade replacement for one course so it didn't change my GPA dramatically. I was curious to see how many DO applicants this year used grade replacement to boost their GPA.

How does grade replacement work? If you got 2 F's then retook and got 2 B's - how would it be factored in? Would the F's and the credits they represent by erased completely in the calculation?

The F's will still show up on your transcript, but they will not be factored in when calculating your GPA.

I don't know if I'm the only one in this boat. I retook 2 classes. My overall GPA changed by less than a .05, but my science GPA changed nearly .30.
