How many hours of sleep do you get average?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Oh man.. last school year I averaged 5-6 a night, but last semester and this semester I usually get 8-10.

Freshman and sophomore year, I had an average of 6 to 7 hours while my junior and senior year I had an average of about 5 to 6 hours on weeks with no exams.

8-9 hours.

7 hours minimum to function normally 🙂

"Function normally" is such a relative phrase. 😉

And u are at UT right? Well that is very encouraging! How do you manage all that sleep now, and not before?

This was in College?

i get 8 hours. but I'm trying to reduce it to 5-6 hours. I'm addicted to sleep

For me to function normally and think clearly in the day, I need at least 7 hrs of sleep. In high school, I had an average of 5 hrs of sleep because my school wasn't located close to home. I definitely have been sleeping more in college, usually from 5-7 hrs depending on my schedule. Since I'm swarmed with finals right now, I'll probably get 4 hrs of sleep until the end of next week. I can pull up to 2 all-nighters in a row if I must, or else I'd sleep 8-9 hrs (usually over my 3 day weekend).

Yeah, for my undergraduate degree. I've been told caffeine is my friend in pharmacy school, but that's all I can say about it.

I'll like to sleep 8 hours but lately it has been more like 6hrs.

I'm not sure about how it will be once I get in pharmacy school but I know right now, I get about 9 hours of sleep a day. I just suck on all levels of everything if I don't get at least 7 hours of sleep. I've never been one to stay up late studying because I find it counterproductive. I'd rather study as much as I can while still getting adequate sleep. Just makes sense to me.

Last semester with 17units...14 of them from physics, chem, biology and their respective labs allowed me to have on average 2-4 hours of sleep the whole semester. There was not one day that I got more than 4 hours of sleep except maybe a day or two during winterbreak. 2 all nighters a week was a common thing.

For five months, I drank ginseng pills, AMP energy drinks and coffee for breakfast/lunch/dinner while sneaking in naps during lectures a little after lunch. I always wanted to die even though I earned top grades in all my classes. I decided that I was going to take it easy on myself this semester (13 units) because my eyes started to twitch excessively and I knew my health was going to deteriorate over time. AT LEAST I know I can survive Pharmacy school cuz I can do well while not having any sleep.

P.S. I want to cry about what I went through last semester every time I think about it. I'm sure there are people who claim to take 20+ units which I think is mind-blowing.

During the week: 4-5 hours
Weekends: 7-8 hours

I usually go to bed around 1-2AM and wake up around 6AM. It sucks, but then again, I've gotten used to it. On days that I actually have an opportunity to sleep in, my body doesn't know how to deal with it and forces me to get up anyways.

I've pretty much never slept more than 6 or so hours a night. Even when I don't have exams. I'd prefer more, but.... the days not long enough to do all the things I want to do. Thankfully, I function really well without sleep. It's just the getting up part that becomes more difficult.

For some reason this thread makes me think about how sweet those tempurpedic mattresses are...

Heck yeah. I got one of the 3 inch toppers to go on my matress. Now I don't want to leave my bed.

I usually get 5-7 hours a night and once a week maybe like 9.

6-7 hours per night. I would wake up before the alarm would go off and can't go back to sleep. Too many things to worry about is ruining my sleeping pattern. 🙄

This year I get about 8 hours of sleep a night because I only work on the weekends (20-25 hrs/week). Soph and Junior year I slept about 5-6 hrs a night because I worked until close most nights (store closed at 12:30 am on weeknights). I guess I should start conditioning myself and getting used to less sleep huh?

Last semester I averaged about 3-4 hours a day, I'm not exactly sure how I lived through that... THIS semester though, I can't seem to stay awake without at least 6 hours of sleep. 😴

when i'm in school, i try to aim for bed somewhere in the midnight-2am range, since i get up at 7. I have 2 or 3 cups of mountain dew from the fountain with my coco puffs or cinnamon toast crunch, then i'm good for a while. I might take an hour nap before i get dinner too.

Weekends and when i'm home over breaks, i'm still tired with 10 hours or more.

7 hours for me.

Nova Southeastern Univ. Class of 2012

Accepted Pharmacy Student...so now I get around 9-12 Hours!!! During my pre-req years I got around 5-7 hrs!! Im getting all the rest in I can before Pharmacy School Starts in September!!!

5 hours during weekday only if it's not an all-nighter...8-9hrs on weekends!

I'd like to call everyone's attention to the following comic from Piled Higher and Deeper:

Doesn't mountain dew lower the sperm reproductions (assuming you are a boy)

wow, I can't believe undergrads are complaining about lack of sleep already. LOL, compared to pharmacy school, it's nothing. Wait until your P2 year to start complaining about not getting enough sleep. Hahahaha

*raises hand* P2 year is the WORST 🙁
4-5 hours of sleep when I'm lucky...

Yeah I heard p2 is rough. But for me I won't be working nearly as much so I'd imagine I won't get any less sleep than now. And I won't have to stress about that gpa as much (not that it won't be tough don't get me wrong). The last two nights I got about 4 but tonight I'm shooting for 7 or 8

I feel not normal after reading this thread because I love to sleep and I have to sleep. I got pillows all over my bed and soft mattress etc. Lol. I get grumpy when I don't get enough sleep or when someone wakes me up if it's not time to wake up yet!!! I have like 3 alarm clocks to wake me up. It rings every 10 minutes. I have to put the alarm clock as far as possible especially when I need to lol. I get 7-9 hours of sleep. I sometimes take naps as well haha too.

Don't get me wrong though I did had those moments of sacrifices like not sleeping at all before the exams or 2-4 hours of sleep. I don't like that feeling that's why I never do it. Plus, I kinda feel I'm using short term memory when I do so.

I love caffeine as well. I do go for coffee. 2 shots espresso. rockstar. redbull. mountain dew. but now i'm going for green tea.

4-5 hrs average lately, 9-10 on weekends LOL

i would get more but Street Fighter IV is just too good😎

most pharmacy students have to work through their pharmacy school. One for keeping student loans low and paying living expenses, the other is because internships are how you constantly refresh what you learned.

P2 year was an endless cycle of class from 8 to 3:30 then study at barns & noble until they close at 11, get few hours of sleep. Rinse and repeat for the weekdays and use the weekends to work 2 internships to pay bills. Going to the grocery store and the gym were my study breaks. It was depressing.

P1 was about 8 hours a night. P2 I'm lucky to get over 6.

I'm usually getting 6 hours a night with a two hour nap in the afternoon.. of course the quarter just started soo the sleep will go down from here.

I love the customer you thing... I get that ALLLL THE TIME. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT DOESNT COVER MY TUSSIONEX?!?!?! BAHHH" And I say "on the back of your card is a number call someone there who might care..."

Well I'm just undergrad, so I'm sure the pharmd program requires more work, but I usually have <10 hrs of school work per week.

Last year I got so little sleep because I had 8am classes pretty much everyday, this year almost all of my days start 11am or 1230pm. And I was adjusting to UT last year (I transferred from a 4-yr univ. that was much easier), now I pretty much got it down.

Too bad you don't get to choose your schedule anymore in pharm school....

Yo I'm planning on working just not full time like I did early in undergrad and the 25-30 I'm doing now. 15 hrs/wk is what I will probably shoot for.

I get about 6 hours of sleep average on weekdays.

about 8-10 hours of sleep on weekends 🙂

hmmmmm doing two jobs will 6 classes and two labs.....like 6 hours..................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There has been study that people who sleep 6-7 hours a day tend to live longer than others who sleep less or more.
Here's the proof.

Damn! I was planning on sleeping 10hrs/ day over Spring break!

Spring Break will shorten your life unless you party all night and get only 6-7 hours of sleep.

24 hours in a day minus 2 jobs minus 2 kids minus 16 credits for my last pre-reqs equals 4 hours of sleep a night....somebody check my math 😴

I would say about 6 hours a night. But now that I'm done with school... probably 8-9 hours 😀

I cant imagine getting good sleep once in pharmacy school though...
