I was accepted into PT school on a conditional basis. All of my volunteer hours were inpatient and they said they would accept me after I volunteered in a outpatient setting. They left the number of hours open-ended. How many would you do?

Send an email and ask what is recommended.

If I had to throw out a number I would say 40ish.

That's a weird conditional acceptance requirement.

That's really odd too. I would personally aim for even less....say 20 hours. But def ok with school first.

Hi! While your acceptance to PT school may not hinge on the number of hours you have completed, the more you observe, the better. I had a rude awakening when I realized that the realities of many PT jobs did not reflect the nature of the clinics where I got my observation hours. For your own benefit, it's best to observe in nursing homes, acute inpatient rehab, acute care (hospitals), outpatient ortho, outpatient neuro and pediatrics. That will give you an idea of where the most jobs are, as well as the types of patients you'll encounter. Good luck 🙂
