For those who went through this last year or prior to that, what proportion of your interview invites did you get post-Dean's letter?

According to the NRMP data someone posted recently it looks like a decent proportion, but the interview thread from last year basically dies after 11/1.

Still waiting on a few programs that I'd really like to check out.

Are you f-ing serious?? According to your posts you have 30+ interviews and your wanting to know about more!! Obviously you are stellar candidate and incredibly in demand but obviously a total douche. Im pretty sure you wont be going to all of your interviews and if you are that good of a candidate then you had no business applying to that many programs because you basically already new you were top gun.

If you need the constant ego stroke of people congratulating you on your interviews and how great you are then keep on trucking.

Oh, btw, you are obviously amazing. Congrats, when I grow up I wanna be just like you!!!

Lol. Calling someone a total douche and your username is "bluntcunt".

By the way, I assume your scorn comes from me having so many interviews. I agree that it is annoying when people hold on to invites they have no intention of going on. That's why I've already cancelled all but the ones I am going on. Good karma points.👍

90% of my interview invites came before nov 1st. the last interview invite i got was late december.

On a feel good note, the majority of my rejection letters came in november 😛

have fun on the interview trail and prepare to gain some weight from the free food.

Douche or no, it's a legitimate question, and one that is pretty much fully answered by last year's interview thread which you are already aware of.

Stanford supposedly sends out zero invited pre-Dean's Letter.

okayplayer- I am with you- I also got a lot of invites- but I still am waiting on some programs that I am really interested in -fingers crossed for monday......

I didn't know how programs would view my application- so I applied broadly.

I have canceled a bunch of my interviews too- wonder if we should subtract them from the interview thread-

Negative. Don't do that. The whole thing is petty. Congratulations on getting a lot of interviews, and nicely done on the point of canceling those that you do not plan to attend.

The OP indicated the reason for the question, and it is a reasonable one. I was a little bit surprised to have so many interviews in the thread before Nov. 1 (I mean in general, not for myself). Best of luck to all in this sometimes-ridiculous process!

35% post nov for me, don't worry dude.

For me it was maybe 10-20%. Not as much as I expected from what I had heard from residents who had gone before me.

pls dont ban this guy. he was born a winner, just like Misterio.

how many programs are listed in the interview thread? id say maybe 25% are still not listed but im more interested in my sam adams right now than to count them all. happy halloween everyone!

do you guys think that perhaps the "better" students (US grads, high board scores, AOA, etc etc) get the invites first...and Im going out on a limb but I feel those comprise a high population of the SDN membership?

and hence maybe those with lower scores/IMG status get the invites after Nov 1 due to whatever reasons (interview cancellations/deans letter/etc)???

Only asking and maybe its paranoia but since nov 1 all i've gotten is a bombardment of rejections

I'm sure that all of the above play a role. SDN is definitely filled with high-achievers.

On a semi-related note, but I think anesthesia is one of the earlier specialties with regards to invites. So for me in the couples match, I've just scheduled everything and have been waiting for my spouse to hear back so I can start cancelling interviews, which might open up some slots for others? Not sure.

I think for the December cancellations this might open things up, but that's cuz it's relatively early in the season.

I think generally it doesn't work exactly that way, most programs don't have "wait lists" that I'm aware of, I think they generally send out X number of invites knowing that maybe 0.2X overall will cancel and therefore they'll still have interviewed enough peeps to fill.

Those late Jan, early Feb interview days are pretty poorly attended (like 50-75%) d/t late-season cancellations -- more evidence that cancellations don't really "help" the other candidates.

Yeah, I wasn't really sure how that worked. I figured that could be the way, but then I've also heard that one reason very few schools reject people is that so they can always go "further down the list" so to speak as people drop out.

Maybe I just like to think that, as the alternative is that some programs are too lazy. I guess they could also be too busy, but really, how long does it take to send an automated email to a filtered group of applicants. It's not like they're addressing personalized letters they have to stamp and put in the mail...

On that note, has anyone else noticed a huge discrepancy in how well some programs communicate vs others? Maybe it's just me, but with so few opportunities to interact, the timeliness and quality of my communication definitely influences my perception of the program. I realize that it's probably largely a reflection of how good the PC is, but still.
