How many interviews do you plan on attending?
Started by NJWxMan
now that the majority of invites have gone out, just curious to see if anyone changed their mind on the # of interviews. i originally picked 7-9, but i have 12 scheduled as of now. although that may change again, since after one interview i am already exhausted 😴

Cancelled one today.
Currently have 12 scheduled. Waiting on invites from 4 more. This was more than I wanted to do, but I'll have done 7 by the end of next week, so we'll see. A lot will depend on how competitive I feel at the end of next week, how burnt out I feel, and what else I find out about the programs I haven't interviewed at.

Oh man. I was planning on attending 6 or 7, but the fact that mode is now higher than that I'm beginning to re-think. (I have 10 scheduled, but was hoping to trim the ones I'm less excited about.)
Are you guys that are applying to more (esp the 10-12) doing so many because you are worried you might not match if you don't, or because you want to see all the options?

For me it's a little bit of both. I'm mostly interviewing at very competitive/top tier programs, and from the look of it, I come from the least prestigious university of anyone interviewing on my day at several of these schools.
I also really don't know anyone who trained at a big-name program. ANd very few who trained at big (8+ residents per year) program period.
So I feel a bit like I have no perspective whatsoever when it comes to a large, broad, and deep program.
I think it's all pretty personal with no magic bullet. Probably a good idea to have a "safety" school or two. For me there are some places that historically aren't "tops" but are attractive to me for personal reasons and so that helps. I'm realizing that even the "top places" are prob less competitive than I originally thought. It really isn't like applying to med school!
But if you've got a "saftey" or two in your group of 6-7 places then you're probably fine.
I'm going to 9 just 'cause I want to make sure I make the right decision.

I got 12 interview invites, and plan on going to 11. Initially only planned on 7-8, but like other posters, wanted to be sure i knew what was out there before making the final decision. I'll probably only rank 7-8, as I'm giving the missus a veto or two based on where she'd least like to live.

Man, I feel for the people doing 13+ interviews...I've already done 7 and I'm seriously dreading getting back on the road again for the four I have left. 🙁 I ran into a guy on the interview trail who had 25 interviews scheduled because he was doing couples match. That's dedication....
Just finished number 11. In 9 short days I'll have done my last. I am giddy at the prospect.
I've cancelled four, have two interviews left, and will probably end up with a rank list of 6 or 7.
Going on 6 total and that feels like a lot to me. 😛 Of course, I'm not interested in any place super competitive so that skews things a bit.

I'm burning out on these. . .
My good friend is applying to Rads and he's going on 23!! He said that was the average number for rads applicants b/c they need to do about 12 rads and then some more for transitional years.
It made me feel much better about the 9 I'm trying to do.
