Ok, I am a below avg. cadidate I guess:
U.S. M.D. school, 1 clerkship honored, way below avg. yet still passing USMLE score (sub 200). Zero research/extracurrics. OK letters of rec but hopefully 1 letter from a 'big name' that might make or break me. Question is, with 6 interviews so far, 30 programs applied to:

When can I feel safe that I will most likely match? Obviously I put some dream programs on my list of 30, but what would a good number of interviews to plan on doing be?

I guess with my stats I hadn't expected to have this many pre-Deans letter release date. I did apply to some places that geographically are way less than desirable to me. Any thoughts on where the line is between too many interviews and rankings and not enough? It's just so hard, I mean I'd really like to match at one place over another, but I'd rather match anesthesia in Iowa (not to cut on Iowa but I like water and hills) than not at all.
Confusing.

number means nothing because I know some people who
got into a program with 2 -3 interviews.

however the program was not a dream program.

so here is the deal

if you want to be an anesthesiogist, you should believe in yourself.

seems like you will get enough interviews for a spot, because you did not get any rejections.

By the way which 6 programs did you get the interviews so far?

By looking at the programs you might be able to assess your chances even more.

So I will wait for your reply.

Interview invites at:
U Michigan
Henry Ford
Western Pennsylvania
U Mass
Univ of Rochester (NY)
Albany
Maine Med

I guess that is 7/30 so far.

from looking at the list you have two great schools.

The first mass of interviews went out and you were able to hook 6 interviews. I say you are doing very well. Given you were able to hook two great schools.

By the way did you do your anesth rotation at UofM?

If you did double plus for you. Like everybody knows you have a great chance of getting in there.

I believe you should wait for the next and last wave of interviews to hit within first two weeks of Nov.

By the way any other big names schools in your list of 30??

If you are wondering about those schools you should look at the interview list in this forum to see if anyone received an interview from those schools.

If they did, you might just cross that school out or you could get lucky to get the last wave of interviews from them.

This year is extremely more competitive than last year.

Just hold on, the ride will become bumpy until you start your interviews.

Given your 6 interviews. You should be able to pull it off . Just
make all the interviews count.

I had a friend that interviewed at four schools and decided not to go to the last fifth school.

The last school gave a bad vibes in their interview invitation letter.

Anyways he matched in this first choice.

More competitive than last year... where did you get that info? Way too early to tell in my book.
